She was initially inspired by the shadows that were cast onto grass. Months later she devised a process that didn't create the object she chose onto canvas in an unflat image. The subject has been transformed into it's own representation which is based on the artist's interpretation. It is most effective when working with living things or objects that can be perishable like fruits and people. Alexa's style of painting is ephemeral and only the photographs of her work survive. Both the painting and photographic techniques are so closely coordinated that the result is a flat, two dimensional space that achieves trompe l'oeil, wherein the third dimension can only be seen in certain areas, such as near the eyes, or near hair. Meade sometimes incorporates her painted figures into the 3-dimensional world surrounding them. They can interact in the self-created world. In this way, she blurs the lines between photography, painting performances and installations.
